People flock from all over the planet to visit the lowest point in the world and with it take a dip in the saltiest body of water. The Dead Sea is a landlocked body of water between Palestine and Jordan. Because of the sea’s salinity, there are no living creatures – except for bacteria. Which is frankly a bonus, so you can enjoy your swim in peace.

What to know before heading to the Dead Sea

We are talking about the saltiest body of water on the planet. It’s not an easy ride for all skin types; personally I can’t stay in the water for more than 15 minutes. This is why selecting a resort/hotel that has other activities or namely pools are important. If you’re like me, you’ll need to take a dip in treated water to cool off.

Be ready for lots of rocks. Most of the beaches have a rocky entrance, so be sure to have a sturdy pair of water shoes or flip flops you’re wiling to lose. Unless you’re brave and want to experience the whole shebang, then by all means go ahead!

Try the full body mud treatment. It’s silly, it’s wet, but it’s a treat. All hotels offer some type of access to the Dead Sea mud. Typically, it’s just a slab of mud by the water in a clay pot or bucket. Slather it all over your body to fully indulge in the benefits of the mud on your skin.

Where to stay in the Dead Sea

On the Jordan side, there is a stretch of wonderful hotels to check out. You can choose a multiple day stay, an overnight stop or a day-pass. Call ahead if you prefer the day-pass route, as prices range depending on the season.

Mövenpick Resort

Our favorite overall stay! The ambience of the Movenpick is more desert-like; the buildings are designed to imitate desert adobes – making it more unique than other resorts. The beach area is small, but comfortable and there are several pools, including an infinity pool to enjoy. Like other hotels, the Movenpick has live entertainment on the weekends, and select weekdays.

Hilton Dead Sea

The Hilton is a great option for a day pass, although spending the night is also quite a treat. The food options are better than the Movenpick, and there are several pool and an overall larger beach area. The trip down to the beach is a bit long, but there are several elevators that take you to the sandy zone. Do check if they have day passes available, as sometimes the resort is only reserved for guests.

Marriott Resort & Spa
For the price, it wasn’t all that. Although the entry fee can be used towards food/beverages you’re quite limited in what you can access. For example, the pool facing the ocean is reserved for guests only. So unless you’re staying the night you get to share the large pool with the families/children etc. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but just something to keep in mind.

O Beach Resort
This is a great option if you’re just looking to spend a few hours in the Dead Sea and don’t plan on spending the night. Clean & modest changing rooms, access to a beautiful infinity pool and of course the sea. O Beach provides affordable accommodation for budget travelers.

Have you been to any Dead Sea resorts that you can recommend? Let us know in the comments! & while you’re in Jordan, don’t miss out on the Ma’in Hot Springs I suggest spending the night either at the Dead Sea or at the Hot Springs since they are so close to each other. If you’re into the outdoorsy scene, take a hike in the historical town of As-Salt!
