Houston, Let’s Taco About It. Top taco joints? We got you. In an attempt to devour the best tacos in Houston, I sought the help of a good friend and fellow Texan. This is what we found on our Tacoventure…

6. TTC – Tacos Tierra Caliente
They told me that I couldn’t rate Houston tacos without trying the best food truck in town. I’m not so sure about that, but this seems to be an unpopular opinion. Although they were incredibly cheap ranging from a dollar to two dollars, they weren’t as tasty as I had been led to believe. You get your basic warm tortilla with a slab of protein (or veggies) some cilantro and onions. Meh. If you’re not into the fancy shmancy toppings, and presentation won’t sway you – then try TTC. Otherwise, it’s a skip for me.

5. La Calle Tacos & Tortas
Think of a chipotle style Taqueria, where you build your own tacos, toppings, and mouthwatering plates. The line cooks are right there to guide you through the whole process. Watch them chef up fresh shrimp ceviche tacos or try their authentic Nopalitos – yummy Cactus marinated overnight and grilled to perfection.

4. Taco a Go Go
A go for sure! A tiny tex mex taqueria with affordable food picks and delicious salsa. The coolest part? The interior is a shrine for Lucha libre (latin wrestling). Enjoy the decked out décor, art and extravagant mural.

3. Eight Row Flint
For the fancy eaters out there and ambience lovers. Our favorite part of Eight Row was the outdoor seating, dim lighting and pet friendly space (lots of puppies trying to share your tacos). The tacos themselves were a bit overpriced for the size, actually a lot overpriced. But were delicious nonetheless. If there is one thing you should try, it’s the Tostadas- any kind just try them.

2. Velvet Taco
A winner for the most creative fusion tacos out there. Far from traditional, they offer some perfectly marinated chicken tikka tacos, a crispy fried cod taco with curry dressing and drool worthy barabcoa.

1. Torchy’s Tacos
The line wrapped around the store and outside (even in the rain). This massive chain really delivers excellent quality traditional tacos with a variety of toppings and sauces that tickle the taste buds.

Well, you’re already in Houston. Here are a couple more non-taco spots for a casual hang out and work friendly spaces.

A 2nd Cup – The story behind this cute little coffee shop is really why I visited in the first place, and I’m very glad I did. It was the perfect place to relax, do some work, enjoy a fresh cup of coffee, and battle human trafficking all at the same time. Check out their mission here.

Present Company – a visual present wrapped in the form of a restaurant. I didn’t get to explore their menu as much as I would have liked, but I did explore every inch of the place and it’s beautiful! At least you’ll get your token Houston portrait with their bright orange heart of Texas sign!

Axelrad – you’ve had just about all the tacos that you can consume, and now it’s time to kick back and relax. Hang out at Axelrad, the perfect casual joint for jenga, music & drinks. You can also order delish pizza on the go & enjoy the intricate tap handles inside!

That was the end of the Tacoventure! Let me know what your favorite tacos places are in the comments. For more Texas travel tips, check out our guide to visiting Austin.
