Looking for the most instagrammable views of Porto?
Look no further. Porto is a city built on hills, which makes for plenty of unique and diverse cityscapes. What to look for when finding the best viewpoints in Portugal? Always search for nearby “miradouro” which is quite literally the Portuguese word for viewpoint – and they never disappoint. Since you’re checking out the best views in Porto, read our travel guide and tips on things to do in Porto, City here. Now, here are favorite photo spots in Porto.
Miradouro da Vitória hidden behind the Torre dos Clérigos or Clérigos Tower, this viewpoint was a treat. You’ll have to walk through a quiet alley to reach here, just be patient. Here’s the exact address to make your life a little easier: R. de São Bento da Vitória 11
Of course, the Sé do Porto or Porto Cathedral is a “must visit monument” in Porto. But the truth is, this was our absolute favorite view of the city. This viewing deck captures the entire Porto side in one glance.
Walk down from the Sé towards the São Bento Station and check out the view of Baixa and Sé.
The upper deck of the famous Ponte Luís’ vantage point overlooking the Douro River is unbeatable.
Now, the lower deck gives you a completely different feel. Make sure to cross on both sides!
Don’t forget the hidden stairway beneath the bridge. Its entry is a little bit tricky, but locals are always happy to show you the way. You won’t get this unique perspective of Ponte Luís pedestrian deck elsewhere.
Quite frankly, there’s no better view of the Ribeira than in the square itself. Enjoy a stroll through the center of the Ribeira and take in this architectural-scape.
There’s nothing like taking a break and cruising down the Douro River, the best part is the spectacular views you’ll get along the way. Book a river tour ahead of time here!
On the Gaia side, take a moment to stop at Esplanada do Teleférico. The hilltop, and glass enclosed, café by Igreja da Serra do Pilar has some of the best views of the Ribeira.
Now that you’re already at the Igreja, walk to the edge and you’ll reach Miradouro da Serra do Pilar. Boom – perfect sunset location!

Porto looks so much different with clear blue sky and grey sky… I’ve never thought that August in Portugal could be so rainy and foggy! But still, there is something magical about Porto, its orange rooftops and old, tiny cobbled streets. For me the best viewpoints are in Vila Nova de Gaia, like the Jardim do Morro. We had only one opportunity to watch sunset there, but it was amazing. Hopefully next time we visit Porto there will be more sunny days, we still have so many places to visit!
